Does Avery walk yet?

We get asked this question so often! Many say that they expected to hear this huge announcement that Avery just started walking all by herself one day. To answer this, I'd have to say, "Yes, but not really." Can Avery walk? Yes. Does Avery walk? Not usually. Avery can walk for about half way across the room by herself when you really make her or bribe her with a toy or paci. But she doesn't really choose that as her first method of transportation. She still prefers to crawl more than anything. So maybe the big announcement will be on the day where she just takes off running...

I actually learned a little about this from our pediatrician today: we're concerned because Brendan can walk--particularly well for his age, but he barely says anything at all. He hasn't yet made any sign of using a word to describe something: not even "mama" or "dada." Our doctor said that kids this age usually pick one avenue of intense development and the other goes on the wayside for a bit. (IE: B's motor skills are AWESOME, but he can't speak a lick.) After a few month, it'll switch. Then we won't see as much development physically but he'll begin to talk like crazy, learning new words every day. I'm not a doctor, but I would imagine that this is the case for Avery, too, just the opposite. I hope that eases your mind a little, it was definitely a "Ahhh.." moment for me.
