It's Saturday. Aaron's gone back to Washington. The last thing I wanted to do was sit at home all weekend. Thanks to a kid-friendly newsletter I receive, I found out about 2 events going on today that I knew the girls would love. Sounded a little chaotic to me, but hey, it got us out of the house and doing something fun. First up, we headed to the Normal Public Library where they had the grand opening of their kids community playroom. To help celebrate, they brought in Reggie Redbird and a balloon artist. This one was a no-brainer. If Reggie and balloons are involved, Avery's in. Each girl got her own balloon and then we headed into the playroom to check out the new toys and exhibits. After enjoying cookies and juice, we were off to our next event. This is where it gets a bit chaotic for my liking.
Our Toys R Us store has always been a bit rundown and tired looking. The lights are dim, the floor is scuffed, and the shelves sag from all the years of abuse from cart dings, crazy kid climbers, and mountains of toys. Of course now that we're moving, they decide to give the store a fabulous facelift and add in a good-sized section for a Babies R Us as well. Today was the grand opening. So the girls and I joined about 85% of the rest of the families in town for this hectic, worse-than-Christmas-shopping, special event. As if the store itself wasn't draw enough, they added in face painting, special appearances by Barbie, Geoffrey the giraffe, and some other ridiculous character. And we were in the thick of it.
Avery got her face painted and had her picture taken with Barbie who looked absolutely thrilled to be there (note my strong sarcasm there). The girls received free prizes and an advance on their impending nap time. They were spent and exhausted, as was I. Whew!
