The fort

Today I reached down deep into the depths of creativity (for me) and won the Cool Mom Award, even if just for the day. While building a fort is not "creative" per se, as it has been something to do for ages, it was a pretty big deal for me. If you know anything about me, you know that while I love spending time with my girls, I'm not a good "player". I'd rather cook with them, read books to them, take them places, do a puzzle, or what have you. But actually "playing" and using my "imagination" are items that don't rank high on my list. Certainly not because I don't think they are important, because they are. I'm just not good at it. I have a short attention span for this type of stuff. I'm very black and white on such matters. What do you mean Barbie is going swimming in that basket? How could she do such a thing when there's not even an ounce of water in this room, much less in that basket? You get my drift.

So I'll say it again. Today was a big deal in my book. And my girls took notice.

We made a fort. And even the Barbies were allowed to join in on the fun. 2 king-sized sheets, 1 pop-up tunnel, and 1 hanging clothes bar later, we stepped into this make-believe world that I rarely enter. We giggled together, chased one another, and played peek-a-boo from the billowing edges of the fort. We even went all out and enjoyed a snack inside the walls of our fairy tale.

Yes, today was a good day. Today was a day of pure laughter and enjoyment. Today was a day that I should relive more often.
