Making Christmas

When all of your worldly possessions arrive in cardboard mountains just days before Christmas...
When you have two small children who anticipate a tree and stockings...
When you've just moved clear across the country...
When you have about zero energy...
When you trip over boxes, cords, luggage, and who knows what else...
When you are unable to find your bath towels, let alone Christmas decorations...

You make your own Christmas.

And that, my friends, is exactly what we did this year.

We couldn't find our large, fairly nice, Christmas tree, several totes of ornaments, any of our stockings or stocking holders, or the tree topper. What we did find though was just enough: the scrawny, fake Christmas tree from one of our first years married, some miscellaneous ornaments, a random strand of lights, and basic, felt stockings at the dollar store.

We spent little time decorating because we didn't have much, and more time enjoying the music playing in the background and the company of one another. We all pitched in to decorate the tree and Avery headed up decorating the stockings which were finally hung with scotch tape. Our tree topper? Avery's preschool art project that had managed to find its way into my backpack and on the plane. Honestly, I'm glad that we couldn't find half of our stuff. It forced us to make the most of what we had and just enjoy it.

Perfect.
No, really, it was just that- perfect.
