While I have gotten better at meal preparations and making some dessert items from scratch, I'm still known for, and have no qualms about opening a box of brownie, cupcake, or cornbread mix. This option actually works better when Emmersen is helping or we're in a hurry as there aren't nearly as many ingredients to add in or stir. Today though, Avery woke early from her nap which gave us a little time together before Emmersen got up to work on a new (to us) recipe. I've had this recipe for years and years but haven't ever taken the time to make it because I'm always so quick with the very-boring-and-very-memorized chocolate chip cookies. Not today.
Today we made my great-grandmother's peanut butter cookies. From scratch. I don't tend to think of myself as an over-the-top sentimental type person, but there was something about making these with Avery that gave me cause to smile. Here I was, taking a recipe that my great-grandmother used to make and now making it with her great great-granddaughter. I felt as if I had snagged a tiny memory of long ago and brought it to the present day. Like Grandma Cashion was right there with us and nodding in approval with a smile in her eyes.
(And yes, they turned out delicious!)
